What You Will Experience

As a Summer@Moana participant, you get to immerse yourself in all of the things that draws thousands of visitors to Maui every year: the natural beauty of the islands. Only with Summer@Moana, you’re doing it with fifteen of your new closest friends from around the country and around the world.

Marine Science

Students will participate in reef and coral ecology studies at a variety of snorkeling spots on Maui from Honolua Bay, Olowalu to ʻĀhihi-Kīnaʻu Natural Area Reserve. Students who are PADI certified will also experience underwater research with our certified SCUBA staff.

Ocean Sports

Students will experience a variety of ocean sports from snorkeling, scuba, surfing, stand up paddling and outrigger canoe paddling. Maui offers some of the best surf breaks in the world for advanced surfers. If you are a beginner Maui has safe entry level beaches and you will learn to surf from experienced surf instructors.

Sailing

Moana Institute Maui will learn mono hull sailing from respected Maui sailing captain off the waters of Lahaina.

Hiking & Culture

Students will experience hikes into bamboo forest, tropical canopies and upcountry Maui, Waihe’e Coastal Refuge and Nu’u Preserve with Hawaiian Island Lands Trust and hikes down Keonehe’ehe’e (Sliding Sands Trail) at Haleakala Crater at 10,023 ft above the clouds.
